The Pet Studio Academy
A career with dogs can be more than something you dream about.
For many of our students, the decision to train as a dog groomer begins long before they ever contact us. It starts with a feeling that they want something different from their working life. They want work they can feel proud of, a practical skill they can make their own and perhaps, one day, a business that gives them greater control over their future.
If that sounds familiar, you may already have imagined yourself doing it. You may have looked at grooming salons differently, researched courses late at night or wondered what it would feel like to tell somebody that you are a professional dog groomer.
The exciting part is that this can become a real career. The important part is understanding that becoming a good groomer takes proper training, practice and commitment. That is where The Pet Studio Academy comes in.

WHAT COULD YOUR LIFE LOOK LIKE AFTER TRAINING?
There is no single career path waiting for you after qualification, and that is part of the attraction.
You might want to join an established salon and continue developing alongside other groomers. You might imagine a home salon where you can create a working pattern that fits around your life. Mobile grooming may appeal to you, or perhaps your longer term ambition is to open a salon, employ a team and build a recognised business of your own.
Your plans may change as your confidence and experience grow. You do not need to know exactly where the next ten years will take you before you begin.
What you do need is a strong professional foundation.
There is a big difference between loving dogs and working professionally with them
Loving dogs is a wonderful reason to explore this career, but it is only the beginning. Professional grooming is skilled, physical and responsible work. Owners are trusting you with a member of their family and expecting you to have the knowledge and judgement to care for them properly.
You need to understand coat preparation, bathing, drying, handling, tools, styling and finishing, but you also need to learn to read the dog in front of you. You need to recognise when something is not right, know when to change your approach and develop the confidence to make professional decisions rather than simply follow a sequence of instructions.
That is why our aim is not to make grooming look easy. Our aim is to teach it properly.
YOU ARE NOT JUST CHOOSING A COURSE
You are choosing who will teach you the skills you may rely on for the rest of your career.
There are many ways to learn about dog grooming and plenty of places offering courses. When you are comparing them, it is easy to focus on the number of days, the list of modules and the price. Those things matter, but they do not tell you what it will actually feel like to learn there or how prepared you will feel when the course is over.
The person teaching you matters. Their experience matters. The dogs you work with matter. The amount of practical guidance you receive matters. Most of all, the standard you are taught to expect from yourself matters.
At The Pet Studio Academy, you are learning within a real professional grooming business from Liza Smith, who has spent more than 26 years working in the industry. This is knowledge built through thousands of appointments, different breeds and coat types, nervous dogs, demanding days, conversations with owners, running a salon and teaching other people how to become professionals themselves.

MEET LIZA
26 years of grooming experience, shared with you.
Liza Smith founded The Pet Studio in 2000 and has spent her career grooming dogs, developing her knowledge, building her business and teaching others. She is qualified in professional dog grooming, teaching and assessment and has undertaken additional education in canine behaviour.
Her expertise has led to appearances on BBC's The One Show and Good Morning Britain, but the experience that matters most inside the Academy is the experience gained at the grooming table.
Liza understands the difference between demonstrating something and teaching somebody how to do it themselves. She knows that students need permission to ask questions, opportunities to practise and honest feedback when something needs improving. She also knows what it feels like to build a career in this industry because she has done it herself.
From beginner to someone people can trust with their dog
At the beginning, even holding the tools correctly can feel unfamiliar. You watch an experienced groomer work and wonder how they make everything look so natural. They can see the shape they are creating, understand what a coat needs and make decisions almost without appearing to think about them.
They were not born knowing how to do that. They learned, practised and gained experience.
Your training is the start of that same process. With guidance, repetition and constructive feedback, the unfamiliar begins to make sense. Your hands become more confident, your eye develops and you start understanding not just what to do, but why you are doing it.
We do not expect you to arrive as a groomer. We expect you to arrive ready to learn.

LEARN INSIDE A REAL GROOMING BUSINESS
The Pet Studio is not a training room designed to look like a salon. It is an established grooming business where professional grooming happens every day.
That distinction matters because the reality of the profession is all around you. Real dogs do not always stand perfectly. Coats are not always in ideal condition. Owners have questions. Timings matter. Welfare matters. Communication matters. Sometimes the plan for a groom has to change.
Learning within that environment helps connect the technical skills you are developing with the profession you are preparing to enter. You begin to understand how the pieces fit together rather than seeing each technique in isolation.

Training is an investment in what comes next
Professional grooming training is a significant financial commitment. We do not try to disguise that, because choosing a career deserves a more serious conversation than simply asking which course is cheapest.
The better question is what you need from your training in order to feel prepared for what comes afterwards.
You are investing in tuition, practical experience, professional knowledge and the opportunity to learn directly from somebody with decades of industry experience. If your ambition is eventually to earn your living from grooming, the skills you develop during training could remain with you throughout your working life.
We will never promise that paying for a course automatically creates a successful career or profitable business. Your results will depend on what you do with the training, the experience you continue to gain and the work you put in afterwards. What we can do is take the responsibility of preparing you seriously.

REAL STUDENTS. REAL NEXT CHAPTERS.
One of the most rewarding parts of running the Academy is seeing what happens after students leave. Former students have taken their skills into employment and built grooming businesses of their own. They started where every new student starts: with something they did not yet know how to do.
Their success belongs to them, but their stories can help you see what professional training might make possible.

Before you decide
- 01
Worried about making the wrong decision?
You should be asking questions before investing in professional training.
You may be wondering whether you are good enough, whether the physical work will suit you, whether you can afford the time away from your current job or whether you could ever feel confident enough to work on somebody else's dog without Liza standing beside you.
These concerns are normal and they deserve proper answers. That is why we would rather speak to you before you enrol than persuade you to buy a course from a web page.
Come and see the environment. Meet Liza. Tell us what you are hoping to change and what is worrying you. We will explain what the training involves and help you decide whether this is genuinely the right direction for you.
COME AND SPEND TIME WITH ME
Liza's advice to somebody considering training is simple: come and spend time with me.
A website can explain qualifications, course structures and experience, but it cannot tell you whether you feel comfortable learning from somebody. A visit gives you the chance to see The Pet Studio, understand the environment, ask the questions you might not want to put into an enquiry form and get a genuine feel for the Academy.
For a decision this important, that matters.
If you are serious about exploring a career in professional dog grooming, your next step does not have to be enrolling. It can simply be starting the conversation.
